Second placed Nikao Sokattak is set to play third placed Puaikura today in the premier men’s division to stay in the race for the men’s round cup trophy.
Nikao is the only team at this stage in the round that can potentially steal the cup away from top of the table Tupapa though they will need to secure a win against Puaikura today to have the chance of taking it off the defending champions next week.
Nikao’s goal scoring machines, Samuel Koiatu and Julius David are key to Nikao’s attacking force, however, will have to get past Puaikura’s key defenders Jarves Aperau and James Taylor before putting away any given goal scoring opportunity given to them.
For Puaikura, Paul Poila, Daniel Taokia and Dwayne Tiputoa have been critical players in many of Puaikura’s goal scoring plays, either being the catalyst or the goal scorer. The trio are likely to be key for the men in red today and will likely take charge in their hunt for goals. A win for Puaikura will put them in a better position to secure the third placed spot.
At the Takitumu field, Matavera-Ngatangiia and Titikaveka will be fighting for the chance to climb up the ladder. Matavera will hope to gain the chance to slide into fourth through a win while Titikaveka will fight for the opportunity to climb back into the top three. However, either side will have to win their next two games to have a chance at making the climb.
The Titikaveka senior women will be targeting a win against Matavera to secure second place in the senior women’s round cup competition. Meanwhile Nikao Sokattak and Puaikura will also aim for a win against each other for the chance to better their standing on the ladder.
