Excitement is building as Head Coach George Ellis and Assistant Coach Paavo Mustonen prepare to lead our U15 Men’s National Development Team to Auckland, New Zealand, for the OFC U15 Boys Development Tour. Sixteen promising young players will be selected to make the trip this Friday, where they’ll represent the Cook Islands against teams from nine Oceania nations.
The squad has been training three times a week, showing commitment, discipline, and passion as they prepare for this major opportunity to perform on the international stage. This tour is more than just a series of matches—it’s a platform to test their skills, gain valuable experience, and represent the Cook Islands with pride.
George Ellis steps into the head coach role after serving as assistant coach for the U16 Men’s National Team last year. A familiar face in Cook Islands football, Ellis has taken on various roles over the years, including team manager during past tournaments. His dedication to player development and leadership within the sport makes him a natural fit to lead this young group of athletes.
Joining him on the sidelines is Assistant Coach Paavo Mustonen, who is stepping into one of his first official coaching roles. Although new to the coaching stage, Paavo’s enthusiasm, fresh perspective, and commitment have already made a positive impact. This opportunity marks a big step in his journey, and the football community is excited to see his continued growth.
Also joining the tour is Team Manager Jason Lindsay, who brings valuable experience and leadership to the management side of the squad. Jason has previously taken on this role with both our U16 and U19 Men’s National Teams, and his knowledge and calm presence will be a key part of the team’s success both on and off the field.
Together, George, Paavo, and Jason have been putting in the hard yards to prepare this team for the international stage—guiding them through focused training sessions, building strong team chemistry, and instilling the values of pride, discipline, and resilience.
With strong leadership and a dedicated group of young players, the Cook Islands U15 squad is ready to take on this exciting challenge in Auckland. We wish George, Paavo, Jason, and the entire team all the best as they head off to represent our nation.
