The CIFA Complex was buzzing with energy and excitement yesterday as nearly 100 enthusiastic young footballers from across the island gathered for the Future Stars School Holiday Football Festival — a one-day event packed with football, learning, and fun!
Organised by the Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA) Technical Team, the festival brought together boys and girls aged 6 to 16 years, all eager to sharpen their skills, make new friends, and enjoy the beautiful game during their school break.
The programme offered more than just football matches. Young players took part in a variety of sessions led by CIFA’s qualified coaches, focusing on technical drills, skill development, and small-sided games. A special highlight of the day was an introduction to refereeing techniques, giving players a better understanding of the rules and flow of the game — a unique and valuable perspective for any future footballer.
“This event wasn’t just about playing,” said one of the organisers from CIFA’s Technical Team. “It was about growing the game by teaching the kids different aspects of football, from skills and tactics to how the game is managed and officiated.”
The day was a celebration of community spirit, with clubs and families from all corners of the island supporting the event. The fields were filled with smiling faces, enthusiastic cheers, and moments of brilliance from Rarotonga’s rising stars. The level of natural talent and passion on display left organisers and coaches inspired about what the future holds for Cook Islands football.
“We saw a lot of potential out there,” added a CIFA coach. “If this is the next generation of footballers, then the future is bright.”
A heartfelt meitaki maata goes out to all the parents, guardians, and club representatives who ensured their children could be part of this special day. Your support made this event the success it was.
With initiatives like the Future Stars Festival, CIFA continues its commitment to developing grassroots football and building strong foundations for tomorrow’s champions.
