The Puaikura U17 men will be nail bitingly awaiting the results of the match to be played today between Nikao Sokattak and Tupapa Maraerenga as their round cup title hangs in the balance.
Both Tupapa and Nikao will target a win over each other and will likely put on a grand final performance in this final-round game as they battle out to better their final result. Nikao need a win and they need to win by 10 goals or more to climb ahead of Tupapa and take second place. Tupapa are one point behind Puaikura on the ladder and are needing a draw or a win to take out the round cup title for the second year in a row, a loss to Nikao would ensure the cup goes to Puaikura and could see Tupapa fall to third.
Nikao Sokattak’s Alphy Ngire has been key to his sides victories this season playing a playmaker’s role by setting up his teammates, Nooti Peau and Toru Mateariki upfront. Ngire is also a sharp shot and can score goals from a distance making him Nikao’s danger man. Today he will need to guide his side in their attempt to climb to second place and will need to put away any given goal scoring chance he gets to aid in his sides quest.
Tupapa’s Raiti Herman, and Aaron Simpson have been a danger to many of their opponents with their ability to both score goals and create opportunities for their side. The duo is likely to be key for Tupapa in their match with Nikao today and will need to lead and guide their team on the pitch as they play for the honor of lifting the DJ gas U17 men’s round cup trophy.
In the U9 and U11 mixed divisions similar situations are about to take place with Nikao Sokattak and Avatiu fighting for the U9 mixed round cup trophy and Avatiu and Titikaveka fighting for the chance to lift the primefoods U11 mixed round cup trophy.
Today Nikao Sokattak plays Tupapa Maraerenga, Matavera-Ngatangiia will go up against Avatiu and Titikaveka faces off with Puaikura except in the U17 men’s division where Puaikura are on bye.
Furthermore, all matches initially to be held on CIFA’s field 2 (all U11 mixed matches and the U17 men’s match between Matavera-Ngatangiia and Avatiu) have been moved to the Takitumu school field.
