The Matavera field is the venue to be at today and tomorrow to catch some good football action between Matavera-Ngatangiia an Avatiu.
The Matavera senior women will take on Avatiu today at 5pm in what could be an interesting encounter. The last time the two sides met Avatiu came away with a convincing win over Matavera. Since then both teams have made noticeable improvements which could make it harder for the other to win.
Matavera are still yet to come away with some points this season in the women’s division and will come out aiming to do so, while Avatiu will come out to put this match away and get some more points on the table to make their way back up the ladder.
The Avatiu and Matavera-Ngatangiia premier men however will be fighting to keep off the bottom of the table when they meet at 5pm tomorrow. Avatiu are a win away from making their first step up the ladder this season while Matavera will need a win to lessen their chance of dropping down to the bottom.
Avatiu assistant coach Terry Piri says his side aims to win by managing workloads “Matavera is fitter than us, but we need to maintain our workloads to be able to contest and win. We are aiming to move up the ladder for a better chance in the playoffs and so every game counts.”
Matavera-Ngatangiia coach Alan Taylor on the other hand says his side will be ready “the players know they need a positive result to stay ahead of Avatiu, a loss means bottom of the table. For us it’s about the team, not individuals, everyone has a job with and without the ball, and the players give absolutely everything on the pitch every week. Avatiu are always tough, but if we play to our best we are confident of a good result.”
