Puaikura and Matavera-Ngatangiia will kick off their second encounter this season when they face off at the Takitumu school field today.
After a loss last weekend Puaikura recovered themselves by taking down Avatiu in their catch-up match on Monday, however today they will take on Matavera who secured their first win of the season against Avatiu also over the weekend. The two side’s recent form say’s this match should be evenly contested and will be a match to watch. Puaikura will be needing a win to keep their hopes alive at making a possible comeback this season while Matavera will be seeking to close the gap between them and Puaikura on the ladder through a win.
In the senior women’s division Matavera will be hoping to achieve better results compared to their first-round fixture with Puaikura and will be striving to show improvements the team has made since then. The side is not as experienced in comparison to many other teams in the competition and are more focused on developing their new players. As for Puaikura, team captain Tasha Dean says they are hoping to achieve results and that their goal is to make all goal scoring opportunities count. “Against Avatiu on Tuesday, second half we dominated possession but couldn’t convert our opportunities into goals. We won’t be underestimating any team, we will take it one game at a time and focus on putting goals away”
Avatiu and Nikao Sokattak is the other Saturday fixture this weekend with the two clubs playing each other at the CIFA complex. The Nikao Sokattak premier men fell heavily to Tupapa Maraerenga last week and will look to redeem themselves a little when they play Avatiu today. Avatiu on the other hand will come out eager to give Nikao a good run for their money and will try to come away with their first win of the season.
Playing at 12:30pm today is the U14 girls followed by the U14 boys at 1:30pm with the senior women playing at 2:30pm and the premier men playing at 4pm.
