New Zealand’s Greatest Footballer Wynton Rufer here in the Cook Islands.

New Zealand’s greatest football legend, former All Whites football player and Oceania’s Player of the Century, Wynton Rufer. Arrived here in the Cook Islands on Tuesday 29thJune, to observe the football programs here in the Cook Islands. For an upcoming FIFA funded after school development program aimed towards primary school students.

To make a start on this project, with a set long term goal to improve football in the Cook Islands and to ultimately qualify the Cook Islands U17 Girls and Boys for the FIFA World Cup. Wynton had been amazed by CIFAs U15 Academy Boys when taking them in training on Tuesday, and other younger talent seen here on the island, he expressed that “There’s potential here in the Cook Islands”.

The project that Wynton Rufer wants to put in place, Wynton is working closely alongside CIFAs Technical Director Tahiri Elikana and his team. 3 primary schools have come back eager to get their best-talents to participate. Wynton also adds that “Talent here is phenomenal” and he’s confident that with this program, the long-term goal is no doubt achievable.

CIFA President says that “We have a program already in place for youth players, the new program that Wynton Rufer is proposing to CIFA will enhance what we already have”.
