Nikao End Tupapa’s No Loss Streak
The Nikao Sokattak premier men’s team went on the road and picked up a big win on Saturday as they defeated competition leaders, Tupapa Maraerenga in a hard-fought match at Victoria Park.
Nikao Sokattak wasted no time as they managed to put the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage near the end of the first half.
Not long after, Tupapa’s Grover Harmon returned fire with a speeding ball to the back of the goal and leveled the scores at 1-1.
Nikao took another shot in the 65thminute which flew to the back of the net to give themselves a 2-1 advantage over the home side. From here on out it was all about defense for the remainder of the match as the young Nikao side fought to keep their lead against the very experienced Tupapa team.
Nikao Sokattak enjoyed more of the possession throughout the final 45 minutes and created plenty of top-shelf scoring chances but Tupapa were not giving up that easily and were addiment to get Nikao back and level the scores.
Paavo Mustonen for Tupapa had the opportunity to level the score when they were awarded a free kick near the end of the second half, but this was defended by Nikao’s Tahiri Elikana in goal.
Tupapa kept pressuring for the remainder of the contest but just couldn’t find the back of the net, leaving Nikao Sokattak to walk away with maximum points as the game ended 2-1 to Nikao Sokattak.
In the other premier men’s matches, Avatiu cruise to a 1-0 lead over Puaikura on Saturday. Meanwhile, Matavera end the round with an upset loss in their mid-week clash, defeated by Titikaveka on Friday afternoon.
