In a mid-week match up Puaikura hosted Nikao at Raemaru Park.
Puaikura’s premier men came out strong against Nikao Sokattak during the Friday match, dominating the early minutes of the game and scoring within the first 10 minutes to go up 1-0. Nikao surprised by goal scored by Daniel Taokia, quickly recovered themselves and took control of the game to eventually score through the boots of Samuel Koiatu, leveling the score 1-1. The Nikao attack broke down the Puaikura defense again in the 35th and 36th minutes of the game when Julius David and Samuel Koiatu scored two consecutive goals within the space of a minute to give their team a two-goal lead. The match continued on with multiple attempts at goal by both teams of which none found the back of the net. The game ended as a 3-1 win for Nikao Sokattak.
On Thursday the Nikao Sokattak senior women fought a tough battle with Puaikura in a match which eventually ended in a draw. Puaikura showed dominance on attack when they penetrated the Nikao defensive line multiple times putting themselves in good positions to score but they weren’t able to finish. With Puaikura unable to score, Nikao Sokattak’s June Punua seized the lead for her side when she scored from a penalty in the box. Later on in the game Puaikura’s Rai Nganu equalized for Puaikura to level the scores and end the game in a 1-all draw.
