Nikao Sokattak claim 2-1 victory over Tupapa Maraerenga in the Tower Insurance premier mens division.
With both their goals scored in the first half of the match, Nikao’s youth players stood out in against Tupapa on Saturday. Nikao’s Toru Mateariki who used his speed to break through Tupapa’s defense line scoring their first goal, also kicked through a ball to his team mates Jack Poiri and Nukuiva Tetava who worked the ball pass the keeper to secure their 2-0 lead.
Tupapa though given many chances at goal found it hard to finish in the first half, the skills and structure were there, but they had trouble finishing. Coming out sturdier in the second half, Tupapa aimed to keep the ball in their favour, and when Tupapa’s Grover Harmon got given a chance at goal, slipped a ball that went straight pass Nikao’s keeper.
In the Matavera and Puaikura match also for the premier men’s, Puaikura men’s team went down to Matavera with a 1-0 score. This week’s men’s mid-week match, Titikaveka took on Avatiu winning 7-2.
In the Islander Senior Women’s game, Tupapa and Nikao were equals in their game, both with a strong defensive side and quick attacking. But Nikao’s minor errors set them back, providing Tupapa with 2 penalties kicks, one given in the first half and another in the second. Tupapa’s Elizabeth Harmon took no chances, putting through two easy balls right through to the back of the net.
For the Matavera and Puaikura’s women’s match, Puaikura beat Matavera 1 nil. In the Titikaveka vs Avatiu game on Thursday, Titikaveka won with a 1-0 score.
