On Wednesday the Open Men’s for the CIFA Beach Soccer Championship took the field as Day 6 of the competition commenced. Game’s kicked off with the young PFC Boys taking on current competition leaders Wantoks. The quick footed Wantok team were able to best the young PFC Boys 7 goals to 1. Next up was Titikaveka Blue Ballz and Nikao Sokattak. Nikao were first to score before Titikaveka retaliated to even the scores. Titikaveka secured a 1 goal lead to follow their equalizer before Nikao Sokattak came back and equalized before the first half was over. The second half of the game saw many opportunities given for both sides, but they were unable to finish leaving the scores at a 2 all tie. Matavera FC Men’s and Black Wolves was another tough game for both teams. In the opening minutes of the match a lapse in Matavera’s judgement caused Black Wolves to get a lead early in the game putting the pressure on Matavera. Luck was not on Matavera’s side as the 4 attempts at goal that they had were foiled by either a crossbar deflection or an error in judgement from the Matavera’s frontline. Second half came along and Matavera were still yet to score and the game looked to go in Black Wolves favor. Then as the kick off was underway Matavera finally found the back of the net giving them a glimmer of hope to defeat the Black Wolves. The clock was ticking and it was anyone’s game at this point, with many attempts at goal taken from both teams. A penalty kick before the hooter blew gave a chance for Black Wolves to score, but they were unsuccessful leaving the game at a 1 all tie. The final game for the men’s saw the MC Stallions take on PFC Guyz. MC Stallions were defeated by the PFC Guyz an easy 3 goals to nil, ending day 6 of the open men’s.
The finals for the Beach Soccer Championship will be played today at the Nikao Beach Courts. So far Wantoks have maintained their lead with PFC Guyz not too far behind in 2ndplace, followed by Matavera FC. Both Matavera and PFC will need a win to secure their place as either 2ndand 3rdplace of the Beach Soccer Competition. PFC Guyz have a tough match ahead of them as they kick off the day against the Black Wolves. The next game will feature the PFC Boyz as they take on Titikaveka Blue Ballz. MC Stallions will play off against Matavera FC with Matavera needing to secure a win against MC Stallions in order to not only lose their chance at coming 3rd, but also to move up to 2ndplace if PFC are to be defeated by Black Wolves. The final match of the day will see Nikao Sokattak take on Wantoks in what will be an interesting match to say the least.
