Puaikura and Titikaveka head to the semi finals

Saturday’s knockout matches were nothing but excitement and awe. The Puaikura FC and Titikaveka FC Premier Men’s have made it into the semi finals after taking out Avatiu FC and Matavera FC Premier Men’s.

At the Matavera field, Puaikura faced off against Avatiu in what was a tactical match played by each team in both offence and defense. A lapse in judgement for the Avatiu team saw Conroy Tiputoa find his opportunity to fire a ball past the goalkeeper. This seemed to be where the game looked to go Puaikura’s way as momentum was high for the western side as Conroy went on to score a 2ndgoal only 10 minutes later. Following through for a third goal was Nathan Tism with a bullet of a shot that found its way to the back of the net. Finishing off the first half was a spectacular goal from the young Oscar Wichman to complete the first 45 mins of the match. As second half was underway, Avatiu was not out of the fight just yet as they went on to score their first goal of the game. This got the ball rolling for Avatiu’s momentum as the team was ready to take down Puaikura. Not long after the Avatiu men’s team went on to score another goal as they edged closer to the Puaikura’s 4 goals while Avatiu secured their 2. Avatiu continued their attacking streak, hungry to add more points to the board with many attempts at goal that turned out unsuccessful. Conroy Tiputoa came back to fire one last shot for the Puaikura team which bought their score to 5 goals and with that the final whistle blew to give Puaikura the victory and the shot at semi finals where they will face off against Nikao Sokattak FC Premier Men’s.

In the other Premier Men’s match Titikaveka FC and Matavera Ngatangiia FC, came to a draw at the end of the 90 mins which led to a Penalty shoot out. Titikaveka became the evident victors of that game after the went on to score 5 goals to Matavera’s 4 in the shoot out, leading them to the semi finals where they will play Tupapa Maraerenga FC.

The Senior women’s matches were taken out by neighboring clubs, Nikao Sokattak and Avatiu FC. Both teams winning 1 goal to nil against their country rivals Matavera and Titikaveka. The Avatiu and Nikao side proceed to the semi finals where Avatiu will face off against Tupapa Maraerenga. While Nikao Sokattak will be playing the Puaikura FC Senior Women’s teams.
