Premier Men – 4:20 p.m.

Congratulations to the Tupapa-Maraerenga Premier Mens, as they lead the Premier division with 32 points, making them the Champions of the 2024 Rarotonga Round Cup. Tupapa is coming off a dominant 3-1 victory against Titikaveka from last weeks match. While Puaikura hopes to come back stronger from their 2-1 loss Avatiu. Both teams are eager to solidify their positions in this fiercely competitive tournament.

Tupapa has showcased strength in both attack and defense this season. Coach David Milanovic has been essential in organizing the backline, while John Noovao contributes not only defensively but also by creating attacking opportunities from the right flank. In midfield, youngster Kima Webb and Henry McKenzie control the pace, linking play effectively to forwards Campbell Best and Tuffy Ngametua, who have been lethal in front of goal.

On the other hand, Puaikura is steadily improving, with key players like Jarves Aperau and Daniel Taokia crucial for creating chances for forwards Akiona Tairi and Joseph Tuaputa. Despite being lower in the standings, Puaikura has shown resilience, and their midfielder JJ Karika will be vital in controlling the game and generating scoring opportunities.

This matchup promises a competitive clash, pitting Tupapa’s clinical possession game against Puaikura’s high-tempo play.

Senior Women – 2:40 p.m.

In the Senior Women’s division, Tupapa-Maraerenga, leading with 29 points, faces fourth-place Puaikura, who is currently at 16 points. Tupapa-Maraerenga come into this match with momentum from their recent win against Titikaveka and Puaikura seeking for a victory after their 3-0 loss against Avatiu,  making for an intriguing encounter.

Puaikura’s Te-Upoko Tuariki and Esther Potoru have been standout performers. Potoru’s leadership and work rate, combined with Tuariki’s attacking drive, are essential for keeping the team competitive. Defender Natasha Dean and Goal Keeper Stephanie Nooroa will also be crucial in the match orchestrating plays and guiding their team from the back. Puaikura aims to disrupt Tupapa’s rhythm and climb the table with a strong performance.

Tupapa’s midfield will be pivotal in dictating the game’s tempo, looking to maintain possession and exploit any gaps in Puaikura’s defense. Defenders Claudean Robati and Tupou Brogan will be crucial in preserving Tupapa’s defensive solidity throughout the match. Midfielders Kayleena Kermode and Jan-Marie Taia will look to create goal opportunities for forwards Aleyna Taripo and youngster Juhani Mustonen.

With both teams coming in with high momentum, expect a tactical battle where possession play meets pressure tactics, making the captains’ roles critical in guiding their teams.

In addition to the senior matches, youth divisions will showcase emerging talent at both venues. From the Under-15 Boys and Girls to the Under-18 Men, young footballers will have their chance to shine and demonstrate the future of Cook Islands football. Each match in today’s schedule promises excitement and highlights the skill of the next generation of players.
