Round fourteen kicks off today with the Juniors kicking things off at 4:15pm followed by the U17 men at 4:45pm
Today Nikao Sokattak plays Puaikura, Tupapa Maraerenga and Avatiu go head to head and Titikaveka goes up against Matavera-Ngatangiia except in the U17 men’s division where Matavera-Ngatangiia is on bye.
Following their win over Matavera earlier on in the week the Nikao Sokattak U17 men will now turn their sights to their next opponents Puaikura.
Both Puaikura and Nikao will be needing wins in their match today to stay in the contest for the round cup. Nikao are sitting four points behind competition leaders Puaikura and will need to win their remaining two matches to steal glory away from both Tupapa Maraerenga and Puaikura.
On the other hand, Puaikura maintain a three-point lead on the ladder but considering Tupapa and Nikao have a game in hand they cannot afford to lose. They will need to win against Nikao Sokattak to have a chance at winning the cup for the first time since 2013, but they will have to wait for the outcome of the match between Nikao Sokattak and Tupapa Maraerenga next week.
Tumatangi Tumatangi, Joseph Tuaputa and Maeva Robati are likely to play key roles for Puaikura during their final match with Nikao today. Tumatangi has commanded Puaikura’s strong defense line since the beginning of the season and will need to guide his younger defenders as they go up against Nikao. Up the front Tuaputa and Robati will need to be clinical and put away any chances given to them to secure goals and potentially another win.
Nikao Sokattak’s Alphy Ngire, Nooti Peau and Toru Mateariki are dangerous on attack and almost lead their side to a comeback upset during their last fixture with Puaikura. The trio will be Nikao’s players to watch and they too will need to create and score goals to have a chance at coming away the victors in today’s match.
