Round Cup Titles On The Line

As we are coming closer to the end of the Rarotonga football season for 2020, the round cup title winners are becoming clearer. The Van’s 2020 Premier Men’s Championship leaders from round 1 Tupapa Maraerenga, have not lost their standing on the points table. With yesterday’s catch-up matches that were played Nikao Sokattak has overtaken previous runners up on the table Puaikura. With a meager 7point difference separating Nikao and Tupapa stakes are running high. For Tupapa Maraerenga to take the round cup championship they need at least a draw this weekend against Nikao Sokattak. If they are defeated by Nikao this Saturday, the lead will still be with the Tupapa side. But they will have to put in all the extra effort to win their next 2 matches to take the round cup trophy.

In the Islander Senior Women’s competition, Puaikura has yet to be taken down from the top of the ladder from round 1 as well. Suffering a 1 – 0 defeat from second place Tupapa Maraerenga, Puaikura will need to win this Saturday’s game against Avatiu to take the round cup title. The battle for second place is a close one as Titikaveka FC Senior Women’s are creeping up on the table looking to take out Tupapa Maraerenga from their current standing. To remain second on the table Tupapa needs to win their remaining 3 matches in the round.

The DJ Gas Under 17 Men’s is a draw between rival’s Nikao Sokattak and Tupapa Maraerenga. With goal difference being the determining factor for the top spot, Tupapa lead by 18 points ahead of Nikao’s 19 goals scored thus far. Last year’s champions of the round Tupapa Maraerenga cannot afford to lose or draw anymore as they will need to win their remaining 3 matches in the round to retain their title as round cup champions.

Following the lead of their Senior Women’s the Puaikura Under 15 girls are also leading their competition for the BSP Under 15 Championship. The Puaikura team will need to win their next 2 matches to retain their title as round cup champions from last year. The Avatiu Under 14 boys are leading the BSP Under 14’s championship and will only need a single draw to secure the win as round cup champions.

The Under 12 and Under 9 Prime Foods titles have been swooped up by the Avatiu FC with almost no doubt. Tupapa Maraerenga currently leads the Under 7’s championship with the results from Wednesday to be the determining factor for the confirmation of their title as round cup champions.
