The 2019 CIFA knockout cup semifinals is set to commence today with the U7 mixed, U9 mixed, U11 mixed and U17 men’s teams kicking off the match week at the CIFA complex in Matavera.
Kicking-off at 4:15pm, Tupapa Maraerenga will play Puaikura and Nikao Sokattak will play Avatiu for a place in the U7 mixed final, Avatiu will play Puaikura and Nikao Sokattak will play Tupapa Maraerenga for a place in the U9 mixed final, while Avatiu faces off with Matavera-Ngatangiia and Titikaveka goes up against Nikao Sokattak for a place in the U11 mixed final.
At 4:45pm the U17 men will take the field with Nikao Sokattak taking on Tupapa Maraerenga and Puaikura facing Avatiu for a place in the U17 men’s final next week.
Playing on CIFA’s field 1, Nikao and Tupapa have had some great and intense matches over recent years and this season has produced some great encounters. A close first encounter saw Tupapa make a last-minute comeback to take out the win while the second and third encounters were hard-fought wins by Nikao and Tupapa respectively. This week’s match is likely to be one to watch as both teams will be eager to go on to the finals.
Playing on CIFA’s field 2, Puaikura will be playing a hungry Avatiu U17 men’s team. In recent games Avatiu have transformed their side and turned them into a much stronger team. Avatiu gave Nikao a good run last week during their knockout playoff, falling to the side 3-2. The match can be described as a back and forth battle of goals, while it also wielded some great tactical plays and some fantastic displays of skill. Avatiu is likely to give Puaikura a good run for their money in their match tomorrow and Puaikura is expected to turn up gunning for a win.
