Titikaveka Bested by Nikao
It was a dark day for the Titikaveka Premier Men’s team on Saturday as they played the strong Nikao Sokattak team. During the first half of the match, Titikaveka held strong and prevented many attempts at goal from the speedy Nikao side preventing all but one goal from reaching the back of the net, from the boots of Julius David. But alas the Nikao side wasn’t done with Titikaveka yet. As the second half was underway Nikao bombarded the Titikaveka side with another 4 goals. Mark Leito was the first player in the second half to kick off the barrage of goals for the Nikao side, with Julius David following not so long after to get his second goal of the day. During the final 10 mins of the match, Parau Ellis and Leonard Roa put the finishing touches on for the Nikao Men’s team to end the match 5 – 0 to the host side.
The same can not be said for the Titikaveka FC Senior Women’s team, as they walk off the pitch with a victory against the hosts. From the boots of Titikaveka’s quick-footed Maeva Carr, the visitors came away with the win against the formidable host. The beginning of the match saw both teams struggling to put goals away and the game was at an almost standstill as the first half came to an end. But a slip up in the Nikao defense was an opportunity seized by the Titikaveka team who managed to hold that lead until the match came to an end.
At the CIFA complex, the Puaikura FC Premier Men’s team were also victors with a 5 – 0 game against the Matavera Ngatangiia FC Premier Men, with the Puaikura senior women’s team also coming away with a win of 7 points to 2.
Due to the weather conditions last Thursday the Tupapa FC and Avatiu FC Senior Women’s and Under 14 boys were unable to play and instead, the match shall be held at Avatiu Field this Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the U17 men’s team’s will be playing this afternoon at the CIFA complex as catch up games in preparation for the upcoming Cook Island games starting in October. Match times for all 3 Under 17 matches as well as our grassroots matches can be found below.
