Saturday’s Premier Men’s football match was nothing but a stand out performance from both teams. Titikaveka FC and Avatiu FC commenced an intense 90 min battle here at the CIFA complex with both teams firing away at the goals and managing to find the back of the net. Avatiu was first to put points on the table with Edward Nga scoring a spectacular goal with a celebration to finish it off. Titikaveka was quick to retaliate as Action Man, Akiona Tairi, returned the favor with a goal only seconds after Avatiu had scored. Both teams managed to get another each to bring the score to 2 – 2, before Titikaveka’s long range asset Jedrick Engu came along and pout one in from just about the halfway point before the first half was over to give Titikaveka the lead with 3 goals to 2.
As second half was under way less than a minute goes by before Titikaveka put another point on the board from the youngster JJ Karika giving the Titikaveka side a comfortable lead. Avatiu were not out of the game yet though as their youngster came in looking to get back at the Titikaveka side putting in a spectacular longshot to bring the scores to 4 – 3. Avatiu was high on the attack looking to take Titikaveka down but the final whistle bought their campaign to an end giving the Titikaveka Premier Men’s team their well deserved victory.
Friday’s match up’s saw top team Tupapa Maraerenga and Puaikura Premier Men’s take the pitch which also ended up becoming an intense battle. Tupapa were the victors of the first half with the scores at 1 – 0 before the half time whistle. Puaikura were ready and fighting for a come-back but alas could not find the finishing touches needed to level the score. In the second half of the match Tupapa wanted to establish a dominating lead on the Puaikura team to ensure their victory. The Tupapa team went on to score 2 more goals bringing the score to 3 – 0 before a penalty in the box saw Puaikura put their first point on the board before the final whistle blew giving Tupapa their 3 – 1 win.
