“Tupapa enjoys win over Avatiu”

In the Tower Insurance Premier men’s match between Avatiu FC and Tupapa Maraerenga FC, which ended in a 2-nil score to Tupapa, at Matavera sports field.

The Avatiu premier men’s team fought well and hard in their match against Tupapa Maraerenga on Saturday, gaining touches and given many chances at goal but a corner kick distributed by Anthony Samuela in the first 15 minutes, found its way to the boots of Rambo Chagomoka giving Tupapa their first mark on the score board. Both teams’ defensive sides made huge impact in their game, with young talent Oscar Wichman and Vince Reupena picking up most attempted balls by Tupapa’s Grover Harmon and Campbell Best, Avatiu held strong in preventing any more chances at goal in the first half.

On the Tupapa side, Dave Milanovic led a hard to pass backline heading and sending back any balls that reached their half and put all efforts in preventing Avatiu’s young striker Silas Trego and mid-fielder Tini Maruhi from meeting the 18-yard box.

In the second half, Avatiu struggled to keep possession of the ball which Tupapa then took to their advantage when reaching Avatiu’s side of the pitch lofting in a final goal 10 minutes before the end of the match claiming their victory.

Titikaveka took on Matavera at CIFA Complex, for their Saturday game and came out with a 3-2 win to Titikaveka. While the Puaikura and Nikao Sokattak men’s teams battled on Monday at CIFA Complex, where Nikao won 4 goals to nil.

In the Islander senior women’s division, the Tupapa Maraerenga women’s team were challenged by Avatiu in the first half with no goals scored. Tupapa’s Kuramaeva found it hard to get through Avatiu’s Alma Ngametua when taking any through balls towards goal, but an unpredicted slip up in the Avatiu’s defense side put a ball right through to the back of the net. Tupapa’s women took lead and used it to put another 2 goals onto the score board, ending with a 3-0 score.

In the other Islander Women’s match, the Matavera women’s team took their winning spirt from their catch-up match last week, carrying out a 2-nil win against Titikaveka. While on Thursday Nikao Sokattak and Puaikura cancelled each other out in their match, which ended nil all.
