Defending Champions Come Out On Top
Round 2 in the football season saw defending champions Tupapa take on Avatiu at the CIFA complex. The intense match saw Tupapa come off the field with an 8-1 win over Avatiu. Tupapa’s Grover Harmon taking the first goal to start off Tupapa’s astounding win, following that Sunai Joseph and Geoff Strickland followed not too long after bringing the half time to score to 3-0. Avatiu were not done yet, come second half Avatiu’s James Nand puts the first point on the board for Avatiu. In retaliation Tupapa’s Paavo Mustonen fires back with a hat trick scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes of the second half. Following Paavos lead, Grover Harmon came back with his second goal of the match with only 5mins remaining. Tupapa finishing strong put the final goal in at the last 2 mins of the match delivered by the young Silas Trego.
Meanwhile at Takitumu, Puaikura and Matavera had come to a stand-still with a 1 all final score. Matavera have yet to win their first game of the season but you can be sure that they are a team to keep an eye out for. On Thursday we saw the first match up against Titikaveka and Nikao Sokkatak senior womens. Both teams were relentless in the match leading to a final score of 4 all. Today the Titikaveka Premier Men’s take on Nikao at Teimurimotia park. Can they break the tie and come out with the win? Or will Nikao be able to overcome them?
