Tupapa Take The Win Against Matavera
Tupapa are happy to walk away with three points in the 2020 competition thanks to an inspired first-half performance in which they found the back of the net for a set of 2 from the boots of Mii Joseph and Paavo Mustonen. An experienced Tupapa team were 2-0 ahead just past the half-hour but the visitors, a side packed with attacking talent, finished off the hosts with an extra 2 goals for victory, bringing the final score to 4 – 0.
In the first half both teams played with timidity, unable to risk a defensive lapse and unwilling to commit too much to an all-out offensive attack. As time wound down, the attack ramped up, and both teams were looking for any chance at slipping a goal past their opponents. Leading to the final two goals by Geoff Strickland and Teariki Tuteru to put the final nail in the coffin for the formidable Tupapa Side.
From the mid-week game in the west we saw Puaikura and Titikaveka go head to head. The visitors came out with an aggressive attacking approach during the first half. Paul-luiz van Eijk was instrumental, making things happen for Puaikura throughout and eventually getting his personal reward by scoring on the strong Titikaveka side and giving his team the lead.
Titikaveka put a free kick into the net that was spilled by the Puaikura goal keeper. The teams were evenly-matched in the first half, with Puaikura taking a 2-1 lead into the half on goals.
Celebrations behind the goals attested to both Puaikura’s dominance and the resilience within the side they looked determined to not let Titikaveka back into the game.
Titikaveka were unable to affect the tempo and Puaikura continued to look like scoring with each attack. The visiting team took advantage of a few second-half miscues to outlast Titikaveka 3 – 1.
