Kicking off the thirteenth round of football is the ever exciting U7, U9 and U11 mixed teams at 4:15pm followed by the dynamic U17 men at 4:45pm today at the CIFA complex.
This week Tupapa Maraerenga is set to play Puaikura, Nikao Sokattak goes up against Matavera-Ngatangiia and Titikaveka will go head to head with Avatiu, except in the U17 men’s division where Avatiu are on bye.
Tupapa and Puaikura’s fierce rivalry in the U17 men’s division will be one to watch when the two teams fight for the top spot on the ladder in their match today. Puaikura currently lead the table with Tupapa trailing closely behind and with only three rounds left in the round cup championship it’s ‘do or die’ for both teams.
Puaikura will have their sights set on a win today as a victory against Tupapa will see them lift the DJ Gas U17 men’s round cup championship trophy. Puaikura attackers Maeva Robati and Joseph Tuaputa will play key roles in their sides match with Tupapa and will need to score at any given chance to give their side a shot at a win. It has been six long years since Puaikura last won the U17 men’s league and they will be striving to make their club proud by winning the cup back today.
Tupapa on the other hand will be focused on an upset and will be pursing their own goals of winning the cup for the third year running. However, they must first overcome a strong Puaikura side before setting their sights on their next two opponents Avatiu and Nikao Sokattak before they can celebrate.
Tupapa’s Francis Terepo and Maru Tearaitoa will be key for Tupapa on attack, while teammates John Noovao and Frali Henry will be pivotal for Tupapa in defense. Henry and Noovao will need to shut down Puaikura’s attacks and provide quick counter attacks for their teammates up front to have a chance at turning the tables.
