Cook’s football eye up Waitakere

Coach Maurice Tillotson is preparing the Cook Islands ‘selection’ side for this fixture against Waitakere scheduled to take place at the CIFA complex in Matavera for a 3.30pm kick off.
“This is a tremendous boost for Cook Islands football having a club of Waitakere’s stature visiting Rarotonga. All Cook Island players and the football community in general, will benefit from seeing the skills of these players ‘first hand’.”
“The Cook Islands ‘Selection’ will include the majority of players who will contest the Pacific Games tournament,” says Tillotson.
With a handful of young versatile players in the ‘selection’ side, Tillotson is anticipating that the players will put their training to the test come Saturday 20th August. This is a massive game for many reasons but it will no doubt assist in the preparations for the Cook Islands national side heading to the Pacific Games in New Caledonia, and tournament thereafter.
The Cook Island’s ‘selection’ side will only include three overseas based players from New Zealand and Australia for this game.
According to coach, Tillotson the presence of these overseas players will have plenty of firepower and motivation for the local based players to be cohesive and play as a team and to build on that going forward.
“This match against Waitakere will be an excellent ‘build up’ for the team prior to their departure to Noumea, New Caledonia,” says Tillotson.
