The Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA) is pleased to announce the upcoming visit of Marvin Eakins, Head Coach of the New Zealand Men’s Futsal Team, who will travel to Rarotonga in November to support the continued growth and development of futsal in the Cook Islands.
The visit is part of CIFA’s ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for players, coaches, and officials while strengthening the sport’s presence throughout the country. During his time on the island, Eakins will deliver a Youth Futsal Coaching Course designed to equip local coaches and football personnel with the knowledge and skills required to develop the next generation of futsal players.
In addition to the coaching course, Eakins will lead a specialised training session with members of the Cook Islands Women’s National Teams. The sessions will provide players with access to high-level coaching expertise and modern futsal methodologies, helping to further enhance their technical and tactical understanding of the game.
With extensive experience coaching at the highest level of futsal in Oceania, Eakins’ visit presents a valuable opportunity for the local football community to learn from one of the region’s leading coaches. His knowledge and insights will assist in building local capacity while inspiring greater participation and interest in futsal across the Cook Islands.
CIFA Futsal Development Officer Penina Katuke welcomed the initiative and highlighted the importance of fostering international partnerships to support football development.
“We are delighted to welcome Marvin to Rarotonga and sincerely thank him and FIFA for their support. Opportunities such as this are invaluable for the growth of our game. Marvin’s expertise and experience will greatly benefit our coaches and players, particularly our women’s national team and those involved in youth development. This visit reflects our commitment to developing futsal pathways and creating more opportunities for our football community to learn, grow and excel.”
As futsal continues to grow in popularity throughout Oceania, CIFA remains focused on providing quality development opportunities and creating an environment where players can thrive both on and off the court. The association looks forward to welcoming Marvin Eakins to Rarotonga and to the positive impact his visit will have on the future of futsal in the Cook Islands.
Further details regarding the Youth Futsal Coaching Course and Women’s National Team training activites will be announced in the coming weeks.
