The Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA) has successfully completed a five-week partnership programme with Tereora College, delivering futsal sessions to Year 9 and 10 students and creating greater opportunities for young people to engage with the sport.
Over the course of the programme, 32 futsal sessions were delivered both indoors and outdoors, reaching a total of 225 students across five classes. The initiative was designed to introduce and develop futsal skills while encouraging active participation, teamwork, and enjoyment through football.
A key focus of the programme was futsal development, providing students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the fast-paced game in a structured and supportive environment. Through engaging activities and match-play scenarios, participants were able to improve their technical abilities, decision-making, and confidence on the court.
The partnership also placed a strong emphasis on community involvement, strengthening the connection between CIFA and local schools while creating positive sporting experiences for young people. By working closely with Tereora College, the programme helped promote healthy lifestyles and further expand the reach of football and futsal within the community.
CIFA extends its sincere thanks to Adrian and the team at Tereora College for their support throughout the programme. Their commitment and collaboration played an important role in the success of the initiative, ensuring students had the opportunity to learn, develop, and enjoy the game.
The successful completion of the five-week programme highlights the value of school partnerships in growing futsal and football participation across the Cook Islands, while inspiring the next generation of players to remain active and involved in sport.
