The 2019 Rarotonga Football season will kick-off with the first lot of games on the 31st July and the finals to be played on the 21st Dec 2019. The season will run with the six clubs competing for the Round Cup and Knock-out Cup Trophies, over the course of five months.
Furthermore, there will now be eight divisions participating in this year’s season, those divisions being the Premier Men’s, Senior Women’s, U17 Men’s, U14 Boys, U14 Girls, U11 Mixed, U9 Mixed and the U7 Mixed teams. Clubs will be gearing up get their teams training and ready for this year’s football season.
CIFA Competitions Manager, Pauline Dean, explains the addition to the divisions saying “During some of the recent seasons, we have seen a boost in young children joining clubs to play football. Due to the huge number of children within the U11 and U8 age groups who play now, we noticed that some children don’t get much game time. We removed the U8 mixed division and added an U9 mixed and U7 mixed.”
“Through this change we hope to see a lot more children getting more game time and a lot more children joining clubs, getting active and having fun. We also hope that teams are more balanced with the children playing against other children of a similar age rather than having as an example an eight-year-old playing against a five-year-old.” Added Dean.
Dean also mentioned that the draw for the season will be made available in the days to come.
