Takuvaine upset Nikao Sokattak

Takuvaine scored in the 7th minute through Jason Potoru who headed the ball over the Sokattak defenders and goalkeeper as a result of a corner kick. Nikao did not waste time and responded with the equalizer 10 minutes later by Paavo Mustonen.
Both teams tried to score another goal in order to get on top of their opposition, however it was not until 31st minute when Dave Tereapii showed that his soccer skills is almost as good as his rugby skills when he scored a beautiful header from a corner kick for the boys from the valley to lead 2 goals to 1 at half time.
During the early part of the second half Nikao Sokattak dominated ball possession and most facets of play, however it was Takuvaine who scored first in the second half when Jason Potoru latched on to a defensive error by the Sokattak defenders to extend Takuvaine’s lead to 3 goals to 1.
In the 71st minute Sokattak veteran midfielder Steve Cuthers latched on to a pass and struck the ball beautifully past Takuvaine’s goalkeeper to bring the score to 3 goals to 2.
Sokattak tried everything at their opposition, however no further goals were scored and the boys from the Takuvaine valley end up being a very happy team. This is one of the biggest upsets in Rarotonga Premier Men’s competition in the last six years.
In the other Premier match on Saturday, host Arorangi led by Tuka Tisam convincingly defeated Titikaveka by 5 goals to 1, with coach/player Tuka Tisam scoring four of their five goals. Titikaveka’s sole goal came off the boot of Pekay Edwards from the penalty spot.
In the much anticipated CIPs Image and Copy Centre Women’s match between Arorangi and Titikaveka, host Arorangi scored in the first 5 minutes when Samantha Lockington who was unmarked, struck the ball past the Titikaveka goalkeeper. However throughout the match Titikaveka dominated ball possession and field territory and was rewarded with a well deserved equalizing goal through winger Claudean Robati.
