Nikao Sokattak Premier Men’s team scored two second half goals to propel them to a 3-1 victory over Tupapa Maraerenga on Saturday at the CIFA Complex.
Paavo Mustonen started off the scoring for Tupapa Maraerenga in the 27th minute with a converted spot kick resulting from a dangerous tackle in the box.
Nikao Sokattak immediately came back and tied the game four minutes later. The tying goal was scored by Julius David and assisted by Mark Leito.
Paavo Mustonen found a clear path to the goal in the 38th minute of the game, however the striker was not able to capitalize as his shot at goal went wayward.
Both sides had good spells of possession with some half chances which went mostly in Nikao Sokattak’s favour.
The two teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
Wasting no time in the second period David fed Toru Mateariki in the 48th minute and the youngster showed neat footwork in the box before lofting a fine shot past Manaariki Pierre.
Nikao Sokattak earned a penalty kick as a Tupapa defender was called for a foul in the box. David took the spot kick but had it hit the cross bar before Pierre cleared the ball.
Tupapa Maraerenga fought back hard but were unable to get the ball past the Nikao Goalkeeper.
Any hopes of a Tupapa come back were dashed as David was able to find the back of the net for the second time scoring off of a rebound that came of Pierre.
Nikao spurred by their fans maintained their tireless effort and were rewarded with a three goals to one win.
In a fantastic, open and enjoyable match, Nikao Sokattak showed their class and deserved the 3-1 victory.
In the other Premier men’s division matches. Matavera with an inspired second half performance scored three goals unanswered goals against Titikaveka on Friday afternoon. Much to their credit, they have been lifted from off the bottom of the table.
For this firs time this year Avatiu were able to overcome Puaikura in front of the home crowd. They have pulled off an incredible upset and will put their win behind to focus towards the CIFA knockout competition.
The Tupapa Maraerenga edged out Titikaveka in a tight Islander Senior Women’s competition. The race for the title was neck and neck right throughout the season and congratulations for Tupapa who persevered and came out on top.
Meanwhile, the Tupapa Maraerenga Football Club took out the DJ Gas U-17 Men’s Division
It’s also been a great Round Cup season for the Puaikura Football Club who managed to snatch the BSP U14 boys and BSP U-14 Girls division titles.
Titikavkea was the outstanding winners of the Prime Foods U11 mixed division whilst Avatiu emerged as the 2018 Round Cup Champions after defeating Puaikura in their final match up of the competition.
Overall, it’s been another incredible season filled with plenty of surprising and interesting results and most of all, quality football action across all divisions.
