The Tupapa Premier men’s team will face Nikao in the CIFA Knockout Cup final after disposing of Puaikura 5-1 in the second semi final clash at the CIFA Complex.
Tupapa Maraerenga took a 1-0 lead on an own goal in the seventh minute.
Grover Harmon’s free kick in the 19th minute skimmed past the Puaikura wall before settling into the net for the second goal of the match to give them a 2-0 advantage.
Puaikura’s offensive attack was able to draw a penalty in the box. Dwayne Tiputoa places the penalty to make it 2-1 in the 25th minute.
In front of a passionate crowd, both teams contributed to a hard-fought encounter, with chances traded at both ends in the first half.
Tupapa Maraerenga would lead 2-1 at the half and wasted no time out of the break in adding to their lead.
Puaikura’s flanks, which proved deadly earlier in the season, were unable to make an impact against a resilient Tupapa Maraerenga defense
The scoring continued for Tupapa Maraerenga with a goal from Geosah George in the 49th minute, a goal from Geoffery Strickland in the 67th minute.
The Aorangi outfit hassled the Tupapa’s momentum but just couldn’t add the final touches to convert their opportunities into goals
As the half was coming to a close, Tupapa made the score 5-1 with Harmon’s second goal of the match.
In the other semi finals of the Premier Men’s match played on Friday at the CIFA Complex, Nikao Sokattak eliminated Titikaveka four goals to two.
In the first half both teams played their hearts out to try and earn their team a spot in the finals.
They both played an attacking game with Nikao Sokattak dominating in ball possession.
Nikao scored two early goals in the opening minutes of the first half.
Not long after Titikaveka put everything on the line and Akiona Tairi netted two goals to level the scores 2-2 at the break.
Nikao secured the win in the second half tacking on two unanswered goals ending the match four goals to two.
In the senior women’s division Tupapa Maraerenga and Titikaveka will meet each other in the CIFA Knockout Cup Final this weekend. Both teams put on good second half performances to edge past their opponents to keep their CIFA Knockout Cup title hopes alive. Titikaveka defeated Avatiu 3-1 and Tupapa Maraerenga thrashed Nikao Sokattak 5-0.
