OFC Senior C Licence Coaching Course for Rarotonga

Eighteen highly motivated coaches within Rarotonga have been given the opportunity to broaden their skills with the OFC Senior C Licence Coaching Course.

The Course is being conducted by Giovani Fernandes, OFC Head of Training and Education, and Jess Ibrom, CIFA Technical Director. The learning program commenced on Monday June 26th and concludes on Friday June 30th and its taking place at the home of CIFA in Matavera.

The aim of the course is to develop participant’s ability to plan, prepare, conduct and evaluate appropriate coaching sessions supported by an understanding of the principles of the game. Following the learning program Jess will mentor the coaches through their deliberate practice component of the course.

“Mentoring is about challenging and supporting individuals to achieve their own goals,” says Jess.  “I’m looking forward to collaborating with coaches and clubs in their coaching development journey.”

One of the course participants is Theresa Tatuava who is currently the Head Coach of the U16 Women’s National Team as well as coaching at Titikaveka FC.

“It’s a great opportunity to expand upon the foundation that CIFA has already put in place at the clubs as it relates to coach development,” says Giovanni.

“Theresa is one example of coaches in the course who have had the opportunity to collaborate with the Jess and as a consequence have enhanced their game understanding and improved their coaching process.”

Theresa has led the U16 National Academy Program in practical coaching with the support of CIFA’s Technical Director, Jess Ibrom and she has taken great strides towards improving her coaching skills and preparing the players for the OFC Under 16 Women’s Championships that will take place in Samoa in August.

Jess, who will lead participant’s assessment, reiterated that the learning program is only one component of the course. Before coaches are assessed they will be required to deliver post course assignments, which will confirm there understanding of course related topics, and at the same time prepare them to undergo the final assessment.

The OFC Senior C Licence Course is one of the milestones in the Cook Islands Football Association Long Term Development Plan as it enables the club to meet club licensing regulations and ultimately further develops our football environment.
