Milestone FIFA Women’s League Launch

“The aim of this programme is to assist FIFA member associations in the growth and strengthening of women’s football competitions giving women and girls a pathway to follow in football” said General Secretary Mii Piri.
In partnership with Cook Islands Football Association, FIFA is playing a key role in launching the women’s league in the Cook Islands.
Donations from FIFA included footballs, training uniforms, bibs, goalkeeping gloves and bags for each team, to assist with the development of women’s football in the Cook Islands.
“This is a milestone for the Cook Islands and commitment from Football Clubs will assist in the longevity of women’s football competitions and the participation of women and girls” continues Piri.
As part of the launch the Cook Islands Football Association are honoured to have Maia Jackman a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her contributions to football in New Zealand.
Jackman’s passion for soccer brought her 50 “A” caps from 1993 to 2010 with a highlight being the selection in the FIFA World XI which played in China at the 2007 World Cup.
With the guidance and support of her parents Michael and Jenny she was able to flourish in her sporting prowess.
A role model in Football for many aspiring youth and women players we are fortunate to have her as part of our launch.
CIFA would like to thank FIFA for their continued support of Women’s Football Development and the opportunity they have given the Cook Islands.
