Rarotonga Soccer to kick off soon

The start of the Rarotonga football season has returned to its normal season as it was shortened last year due to the hosting of the Pacific Mini Games. The Football Association has to work around the current rugby competition draw in terms of ground availability in order to finalize the match schedule for this year. The Round Cup Championship will run for approximately 14 weeks which will be followed by the Knock-Out Competition in late November.
Last year’s Premier Men’s Round Cup Champions Nikao Sokattak will be gearing to retain their title from challenges from other clubs. Nikao Sokattak is expected to put up a strong team again in 2010.
Most clubs will have a women’s team to compete in this year’s competition with last year’s Champions Arorangi who won both the Round Cup and Knock-Out titles, will be the team to watch out for. No doubt Arorangi will welcome competition from the other clubs. It is also expected players that have been training for the National Cook Islands Women’s squad which will be finalized next week will have some influence on their peers during the season.
Club officials are requested to register teams and players with the CIFA office within the next week.
