Cooks Overcome Samoa in Soccer

The game was intense for both sides as they kept pressing high with the ball eager to win. A clear nil-all score maintained throughout half time and majority of the second half of the match.
Cook Islands’ goalkeeper and Captain Keegan Inia produced some brilliant saves to deny Samoa’s forward Vaatausali Vaa and maintained the score.
The equation was simple for Samoa who knew a win over Cook Islands would secure their spot at September’s OFC U-20 Championship in Vanuatu.
However, it didn’t go down too well for them when a late twist in the 88th minute saw Cook Islands’ Dwayne Tiputoa pounce on a mistake by Samoa’s goalkeeper to score the one and only winning goal for his team.
Cook Islands coach Tuka Tisam believes his side deserves every credit for their win over a strong Samoa team.
“We wanted a win and we needed to win and my boys worked very hard for it against a tough team,” he said.
“It was a very physical match and Samoa has a lot of skilful and strong players so my boys did really well to win.”
With a win and one draw in the bag, the chances have increased for the Cook Islands and a qualification into the September OFC Championships] Finals in Vanuatu. However, that fate will be determined at their final match day when they face American Samoa on Sunday 26 June at 1:00pm. It is a must win match and anything less could give Samoa or Tonga the opportunity to go through.
