Sokattak & Tupapa ready for Final

In the Premier Men’s division the top two clubs, Nikao Sokattak and Tupapa Maraerenga are both ready for the finals and their last game for the 2012 Football Season. Both sides will battle hard to etch their name on the Cook Islands Football Association’s Cup. Nikao Sokatak and Tupapa Maraerenga have the wealth in experience with a number of players who have been here before which will help settle the nerves.
Player for player, Sokattak have a more experienced goal keeper and might have the edge over Tupapa in their defence because of their speed. In the mid field area these two teams are evenly matched while in the striking department with national striker Campbell Best injured, Sokattak have the edge over Tupapa.
On the surface, Sokattak have history on their side boasting two wins in 2010 and 2011. Will Nikao Sokattak make it three years or will this year’s round cup champions do the double and win the knock-out cup as well.
With Stephen Willis and captain Nathan Tisam instructing their defence while Steve Cuthers and tricky ‘Ricky’ Teariki Mateariki who will direct the mid field area for any open opportunities for their striker Paavo Mustonen who have paid dividends for his side scoring in every match he has played.
“I urge my team mates to be fired up for this final clash against Tupapa,” says Nikao Sokattak Captain Nathan Tisam. “This season has been slow for us and if we are to raise the cup again this year we need to make every opportunity we have in front of the goal count.”
“Putting aside the performances before today’s final, we are looking forward to playing against Tupapa,” says Tisam.
Meanwhile for Tupapa Maraerenga the team is looking at bringing home the cup although they have some injuries procured from their last two matches they have managed to maintain good performances and will head into today’s final clash wanting to win.
“It’s exciting,” says Tupapa Captain Mii Joseph. “Nikao will definitely come out firing and will want to win this match. We will need to step up our performance as a team, play smart football and make every chance we have count”.
“We are going to give 110% individually towards this game and be hungry for a win. But other than that regardless of the results I hope that we walk off the field knowing we’ve done our very best for our village,” says Joseph.
All in all this premier men’s knock-out final match is predicted to be a thrilling and exciting one with all the ingredients of attacking and entertaining football to be displayed.
Prior to the main match the senior women’s from the clubs of Titikaveka and Tupapa Maraerenga will square off against each other at 2.30pm. These two teams consist of outstanding players who can cause problems for their opponents given the opportunity.
On average there are four national players in both teams. For Titikaveka, speedy Patricia Teaea and Edwin Matenga together with goal keeper Kara Matenga will be influential to their team mates.
Tupapa’s skilful mid fielder Elizabeth Harmon and the strong frame of Tupou Patia in defence will no doubt contribute to Tupapa’s overall performance.
This should be a very close encounter with Titikaveka hoping to win their first silver ware in 14 years since women’s football started.
Kicking off the knock-out clash is the Under 14 Boys, Nikao Sokattak battling it out with Arorangi at 11.30am followed by the Under 14 Girl’s division at 12.15pm between Tupapa Maraerenga and Arorangi.
At 1pm the Under 17 Men’s category will see Nikao Sokattak and Tupapa fight it out for top honours. Good Luck to all the teams.
