Battle still in store at Youth Champs

Aitutaki were given a scare from Mauke by leading with two goals to one in the first half with brilliant goals from Takuina Tararo and Roimata Moetua. Aitutaki closed the lead with a goal from Teremoana Paerau. Mauke extended their lead through striker Takuina with three goals to one but Aitutaki never gave up and hounded the Mauke goal mouth and scored another two free kicks to equalize before the full time whistle. It was a thrilling end to a tense match between these two strong teams. Both teams were looking to win to take the lead in Pool A in the Under 15 Boy’s division with both teams having a game in hand.
In the other matches played yesterday afternoon, Te Au O Tonga took on an assertive Mitiaro side but Te Au Tonga dimmed Mitiaro’s hope by placing two unanswered goals in the Under 16 Girls division while the Mitiaro Under 15 Boys tried tirelessly to score a goal but Te Au O Tonga ran away with four goals and winning their match.
Mangaia looked hungry for a win yesterday afternoon as they annihilated Takitumu in both the Under 16 Girls and Under 15 Boys division. Striker, Rai Nganu got the scoring underway in the 5th minute and went on to score another two goals for a hat trick for Mangaia. Despite being three goals behind, Takitumu managed to score two goals through Paulina Ponga but Mangaia added another goal for them and went on to win by four goals to two.
In the Under 15 Boys division, Mangaia went on a goal scoring frenzy against Takitumu by scoring six goals while their supporters cheered on. Takitumu scored their only goal through Samuel Tatia but it wasn’t enough as the full time whistle sounded.
