Cook’s showed a lot of attacking intent but found it difficult to score until the 70th minute when the team won a penalty for hand ball and Captain Mama Henry stepped up and stroked home a perfect penalty into the corner of the goal.
In the 79th minute Regina Mustonen controlled the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a stunning left-foot strike into the top corner of the goal.
This is the best and first time the Cook’s have picked up a medal at an international soccer tournament.
On top of this historic moment for Cook’s, the team’s goalkeeper Marjorie Toru was awarded the Golden Glove as the competition’s most impressive goalkeeper.
The team will return to our shore tonight. CIFA would like to thank families and friends who have sent words of encouragement.
