Soccer clash of the Titans

According to Waitakere captain Jake Butler “although Rarotonga is a beautiful place for a holiday, we are here to play football and to play well.”
The club who has produced several national All Whites players is all geared up for their one off match against the Cook Islands ‘selection’ side and this was evident at the training session held at the CIFA complex in Matavera on Thursday at 2.00pm where they demonstrated exceptional ball skills.
Tony Jamieson captain of the Cook Islands ‘selection’ side commented, “although Waitakere United FC is a highly ranked club in the region, the Cook Islands boys are ready.”
Yesterday morning the Waitakere United football team paid a visit to the Nukutere College to share the football skills to the students which included ball work with individual students and heading into a fun game where the students and Waitakere players thoroughly enjoyed it.
Waitakere management and players presented caps for the students as they finished off their visit to the Nukutere College students.
To kick off today’s proceedings the Cook Islands National women’s squad will take on a Boy’s Youth Selection scheduled to kick off at 1.00pm. This will be a real test for the players and management to see where they are before heading off to Noumea, New Caledonia for the Pacific Games next week Friday 26th August 2011.
