Big moments in Football Knock Out Competition

The Cook Islands Football knock-out competition put together some fierce contest and mixed results over the weekend. The crowd was well pleased with the soccer spectacle, as roars of joy and heartache alike were expressed on the day.

The Nikao Sokattak premier men’s team advance to the semi fianls and played without nerves on Saturday unleashing its unstoppable firepower to thrash Avatiu 7-1 at the Takitumu school grounds in Matavera. Goals from Samuela Koiati (4), Julius David (2) and Parau Ellis helped Nikao Sokattak trounce Avatiu.

In the early moments of the game, It was Avatiu who dominated possesion and kicked off the attack. However they were not able to capatilize on three goal mouth scrambles. From that point on Avatiu were second best througout the first half and after a period of intense pressure, Julius David opened the scoring with a well placed finish shortly in the thirteenth minute before Samuela Koiati doubled the lead after Avatiu failed in their attempt to play a high defensive line.
Nikao Sokattak rarely looked threatened and deservedly increased their lead when Koiati scored his second goal of the match thirty two minutes into the game. Shortly after that Parau Ellis added another close range shot on an Nathan Tism assist.

In the second half Avatiu’s hopes of victory were all but ended as Koiati and Julius David made the most of some calamitous defending from Avatiu to put Nikao Sokattak seven goals up in the game.

In the other premier men’s matches, Takuvaine took on Matavera to win two goals to one, while Puaikura have also booked a spot in the semis after going into a penalty shootout with Titikaveka to break the 4-4 deadlock, gifting them a 5-4 victory.
