Palauni Tapusoa of Pago Youth celebrates his first of three goals against Kiwi FC

The attending spectators can expect a nail-biting final round at the CIFA Complex today with only one more spot available in the 2019 OFC champions league. Two teams from this qualifying round will move forward to play the top clubs from other countries such as New Zealand, Fiji, and New Caledonia.

Tupapa Maraerenga will attempt to bag another victory to secure the top spot which will determine where they will fly to. Whereas American Samoa’s Pago youth will want to end their tournament on a high. The local side will play Pago youth, in the final game today of the tournament, at 5:30 pm.

Kiwi FC will play Loto Ha’apai at 2:30 pm for a chance to score the remaining spot in the OFC champions league to commence in a few weeks. Both teams sit at equal points on the points table, whereby winning one game and losing another. Loto Ha’apai, however, has a higher goal difference and will only need a draw to move on to the next round.

In a pre-match interview both coaches mentioned how important this game is for them, and the players.

“We have good chances still. Win or draw. We aren’t going for a draw at the moment, we are going for a win so we can be the second team to qualify for the second round” Loto Ha’apai coach, Lui Muavesi, said.

Muavesi also expressed that “It’s a do or die, we have to play hard”

Muavesi also mentioned Loto Ha’apai has not qualified for the next stage before and so they are looking to create history for their club.

Kiwi FC Coach Martin Tamasese emphasized the importance of this game saying “This is the most important game for us. If we win, we qualify. If not, we are out. That is the reason why we really want to prepare well”.
