Festival of fun in store for Puaikura

Just Play Soccer will be teaming up with Cook Islands Rugby and Netball Cook Islands to provide an afternoon of basic skills, fun games and keeping active for boys and girls 6-13 years of age from in and around Puaikura.
The interest and numbers continue to grow as the activity has moved around the island from its first gathering in Tupapa with around 30 children to over 80 children in the Rutaki area.
“This festival provides the little ones with an opportunity to be active after school through fun activities and games and while receiving important health messages which can improve their lifestyles,” Paiti says.
“Hydration” is this month’s health message. Children are encouraged to drink water daily and that water is the best drink to keep their bodies hydrated especially during sporting activities.
“Keeping our children active and healthy is one thing however these messages also need to be encouraged and supported through to our parents too.”
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) is a huge issue in our country and through these activities which were instigated by Just Play Football Project Manager Michelle Paiti with the assistance of the Ministry of Health’s Karen Tairea, the awareness of the importance of active and healthy lifestyles is certainly getting into our communities.
Paiti acknowledges the other sporting codes and Public Health who continue to support this monthly even for a better lifestyle for our youngsters.
Michelle also thanks the Government of Australia – through its agencies the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) who continue to assist in the development of our children.
