The Village Festival is a fun way to get active and have a go at a variety of fun sports activities.
Cook Islands Football through its Just Play Program combined with four other sporting codes Cricket, Handball, Athletics and Badminton, along with Ministry of Internal Affairs Disability Division Representative to put on the exciting Village Festival for youngsters.
“The fun Village Festival is a favourite of lots of children who look forward to the monthly event. The festival is a fun way to get active, learn about key social messages and have a go at a variety of fun sports activities” said Just Play Manager Michelle Paiti.
The Social Message for the month was Inclusion and this was delivered by Lani Matanitabua of Internal Affairs Disability Division.
The purpose of the Disability Division is to promote, support and improve the lives of Persons with a Disability through effective coordination, advisory and delivery of Government’s development processes on their human rights.
Just Play Village Festival and Disability Division have taken positive steps in promoting the participation of Persons with a Disability and ensuring their full participation and equality in fun sports with the social message and activities that endorsed inclusion.
“It was a great festival today with lots of young and excited children participating, and it was fantastic to see the support from so many parents. All children are always encouraged to participate for fun and positive experiences through sport and physical activity” said Paiti.
Paiti would like to acknowledge the continued support and funding through the Just Play Social Development Programme from the Australian Government (AusAid), Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), UEFA and UNICEF as well as from our local partners Cricket, Handball, Athletics and Badminton.
