Junior footballers set for competition

Seven school teams Avarua, Nikao, Avatea, Titikaveka, Nukutere, Papaaroa and Arorangi have registered their interest in the girl’s division while eight schools Avarua, Nikao, Avatea, Titikaveka, Nukutere, Te Uki Ou, Arorangi and Papaaroa have entered their school team in the boy’s category.
With over five weeks of preparation with the assistance of the Cook Islands Football technical staff, the schools will make certain they record their first win and three points and with anticipation maintain their performance for a comfortable standing throughout the round robin competition prior to the play offs.
The opening day will see three time champions Avarua take on Nikao School on field one while Avatea battle it out with Titikaveka on field two. Papaaroa will go head to head against Nukutere on field three. Without doubt all six schools competition today will look to bag their first win.
Following the girl’s division at 3.20pm in the boy’s category powerhouse Avarua will go head to head against Nikao on field one while 2012 Champion Avatea will battle it out with Titikaveka on field two and Nukutere take on Te Uki Ou on field three. And on field four Arorangi will play Papaaroa.
“It will be exciting for the senior students to play against their peers from different schools today,” says Tuka Tisam.
“No doubt there will be some schools out for vengeance following last year’s competition however, all in all there will be plenty of football action from our junior footballers,” he says.
