Avatea & Nukutere 2013 Champs

Avatea Primary School has retained the silverware and champions title for 2013 in the boy’s division, winning over Avarua in penalty shoot-out. Taking into consideration, Avatea almost lost grasp of the trophy when Avarua scored early in the first half to finally crack the egg of any team scoring against Avatea. Avatea tried to equalize in the first half but time ran out for the half time break.
In the second half Avarua managed to keep Avatea at bay however with two minutes of play remaining Avatea finally saw their efforts pay off when they scored the equalizer sending their supporters and players into a frenzy which also meant a penalty shoot-out was to take place to determine the winner. Avatea coming out on top and winning the 2013 title by five goals to Avarua’s four goals.
In the other matches in the boy’s division, Nukutere took out third place winning over fourth place Arorangi by three goals to two while Nikao will settle with fifth place defeating Papaaroa by four goals to one.
Also in fashionable flair during the girl’s challenge, Avarua and Nukutere were evenly matched in all facets of play. Both sides almost locking it in for their schools however both goalkeepers were on ‘superman’ vision blocking every shot that came their way, going into the half time break scoreless.
The second spell also brought more vocal drama from the supporters as they cheered on their team and seeing every opportunity sway away from the goal area. With both team looking confident at sealing the deal for the school team, was outrun by the time as they headed to a penalty shoot-out. A couple of missed shots at goal from both teams saw them sit on two goals each with Nukutere having one more player to kick and win it for her school and she did just that, knocking through the winning goal for her school as her team mates surrounded her cheering.
Nukutere, winning for the first time since the senior primary school competition kicked off, winning over Avarua by three goals to two.
Other results saw Avatea take third place, winning narrowly over Titikave by one goal to nil.
The Cook Islands Football Association technical staff are pleased with the outcome of the competition and the improvement of the players since the kick off of the tournament five weeks ago.
“The level of improvement has exceeded our expectations this year and we are looking forward to next year’s competition”, says Tuka Tisam.
“We would like to congratulate all the schools who have achieved and won this year’s championship and to all of those schools who participated in this tournament”, say Tisam.

1st Nukutere (Nukutere 3 – Avarua 2)
2nd Avarua (Avarua 2 – Nukutere 3)
3rd Avatea (Avatea 1 – Titikaveka 0)
Boy’s division:
1st Avatea (Avatea 5 – Avarua 4)
2nd Avarua (Avarua 4 – Avatea 5)
3rd Nukutere (Nukutere 3 – Arorangi 2)
