Successful FIFA Grassroots Workshop

Conducted by Oceania Football Confederation Football Instructor for FIFA Giovani Fernandes and facilitated by Cook Islands Football Association Head of Player Development Richard Anderson .
The coaching course was conducted at the Cook Islands Football Association which commenced on Monday 5th October with a welcoming address by CIFA President Lee Harmon and wraps up this evening with a presentation of certificates to the participants.
“The course was aimed to enhance participant knowledge on player development with a specific focus on creating a Grassroots Football Environment,” said Fernandes.
The participants were able to focus on three main areas of coaching from understanding player development, coaching approach and creating a grassroots football environment.
The course covered classroom theory sessions, group activities and on the field practical sessions. The workshop will conclude with a fun football festival today.
The coaches were placed into groups to prepare for practical sessions and had to come up with creative ways to deliver them.
“It is important for coaches to encourage enjoyment and provide each child with a positive experience through playing football. This is what our grassroots philosophy is about. We want to make sure each child has fun and that coaches keep in mind that Grassroots football is football for all,” stated Anderson.
“This week’s course has been intense and I am very pleased with the participant’s involvement and level of their contributions,” Fernandes says.
Play is the best means of learning, above all youth should have fun and the coaches will be more equipped for the progression of the youth and providing the tools needed for those that are passionate about football.
