Puaikura will play its opening match against the 2017 Round Cup Competition Champions on Saturday 18 August at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.
Arguably the best matchup of the first few days of the season, Puaikura and Tupapa Maraerenga have cultivated a nice little rivalry over the past few years. Both have plenty to prove, and tweaks to try out.
This is the perfect measuring stick game for Puaikura in terms of finding out exactly where it’s at in terms of competing against the better clubs in the competition. Goal scoring machines Dwayne Tiputoa, Pekay Edwards and gusty defender Jarves Aperau will be the key players for Puaikura in Saturday’s encounter.
Tupapa Maraerenga looks the more dangerous of the two, with Grover Harmon and returning standouts Paavo Mustonen, and Anthony Samuela leading the team offensively.
But at the end of the day, these are two good teams based on previous performance and will no doubt entertain the spectators.
In the other Premier Men’s match a lot has been made of the new faces Avatiu have acquired an offense and in-goal. The transfer of speedy striker Campbell Best will contribute to Avatiu’s attacking play. Matavera football club have also secured the services of other players from other clubs and will no doubt look at improving their ranking in the Round Cup Competition in 2018. These two clubs will meet at the Takitumu school grounds
Both Premier men’s match will kick off at 4:00pm. Saturday’s soccer games will commence at 12:30pm with the Under 14 girl’s division.
