Young football women of the Cook Islands have been training hard recently as they prepare themselves for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2019. The tournament will take place between 30 September and 12 October where the winner will go on to represent Oceania at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020.
The Cook Island nationals will play in what looks to be the harder pool of the lot facing off against the likes of Fiji, Tahiti and defending champions New Zealand in the race for Group A supremacy while in Group B Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu will battle for the top spot.
Meanwhile, American Samoa, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea will face off in Group C.
The Cook Islands U16 Women’s qualified for the Semifinals during their last OFC U16 Women’s Championship appearance, They faced New Zealand who went on to win the Championship that year. The team will look to better their result from last time to achieve a final finish.
