Rutaki Festival Successful

Project manager Michelle Paiti was thrilled with the turnout of children and parents noting a 39% increase in the participation numbers.
“We had just over 40 children participate at our last festival in Rutaki and so it was great to see this number increase this time around,” she said.
The festival which was held at the Rutaki school field was a success with children getting the opportunity to run, jump, roll, hurdle and kick through a number of activities delivered by football, athletics, rugby and gymnastics.
In addition important key messages around respect and protecting each other were shared to the children during rotations by staff of Internal Affairs.
A special visitor to the festival was also amongst the mix of fun and education, Andre Whittaker of UNICEF- a major sponsor of the Just Play Programme.
Whittaker who is on holiday with his family was delighted to stumble across the village festival and witness the great impact the programme is having on the Rarotonga community.
Pleased by what he saw, Whittaker also shared in the excitement and participated in handing out free drink bottles to each child after the activities which were donated by Jetsave travel and Western Union.
Overall the festival was a success for Paiti and her Just Play programme.
Just Play is a sport for development programme supported by Australian Aid, New Zealand Aid, FFA, the UEFA Foundation for Children and UNICEF.
